Dean Cain traveled to Washington, D.C. for Episode 4 of The Homeland to sit down with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche for a wide-ranging conversation on the current state of American law enforcement and federal prosecution.
Federal Prosecutions Are Accelerating
Blanche addressed public frustration over the perceived pace of federal prosecutions, explaining that the groundwork began over 14 months ago under former Attorney General Pam Bondi. He noted that the DOJ now has a nearly full slate of 93 U.S. Attorneys deployed across the country, and emphasized that complex investigations require time, citing the prior administration’s 23-month timeline to indict President Trump as a comparison.
“Investigations do take time,” Blanche said. “We have great prosecutors, great law enforcement, FBI, DEA, Marshals, HSI, ATF, state, and locals.”
The Constitution and Executive Authority Over the DOJ
Blanche responded directly to former President Obama’s recent claim that the White House should not be able to direct the Attorney General. Citing Article II of the Constitution, Blanche made clear that all executive power rests with the President.
“It does not say, ‘except for the Department of Justice,’” Blanche stated. He compared the DOJ relationship to that of the Secretary of Defense, arguing no one would question the President’s authority to direct military leadership.
Weaponization Under the Prior Administration
The conversation turned to what Blanche described as “the worst example in history” of weaponized justice under the Biden administration and Attorney General Garland. He pointed to the four separate indictments of President Trump, efforts to remove him from the ballot, and the civil case in New York targeting his business, a verdict later reversed on appeal.
Blanche noted that the Mueller investigation consumed most of Trump’s first term, effectively slowing his policy agenda even though the Russia collusion narrative was ultimately discredited.
The Southern Poverty Law Center Indictment
Blanche confirmed the SPLC indictment is moving forward. The charges allege that the organization directed significant funding to the very extremist groups it publicly claimed to oppose. He noted that the SPLC’s designations had real consequences: financial institutions used them to de-bank organizations the SPLC labeled as hate groups.
The case is being handled by a prosecutor in the middle of the country with an FBI agent, not political operatives in Washington, Blanche emphasized.
Denaturalization: Protecting the Integrity of Citizenship
Blanche outlined the DOJ’s renewed focus on denaturalization, revoking citizenship from individuals who committed fraud on their applications. He framed citizenship as an honor and a privilege, stating that intentional lies about key facts on an application should carry consequences regardless of wealth, status, or country of origin.
“We’re not talking about making a mistake on your birthday,” Blanche clarified. “We’re talking about intentionally lying about a key fact that was the difference between you getting citizenship and not.”
He indicated that more cases are forthcoming over the next several months.
Supporting Law Enforcement
Both Cain and Blanche expressed strong support for law enforcement at all levels. Blanche described visiting border officers in Arizona and making a point to thank law enforcement wherever he goes. He distinguished between legitimate protest and what he characterized as riots, criticizing media coverage that fails to make that distinction.
Blanche closed by thanking Cain for his vocal support of law enforcement and willingness to stand publicly with those who serve.
